Ember Lumen (voice of Leah Lewis) lives in a suburb outside of the major city. Why? Because like everyone in the neighborhood they are all flaming hot. She works with her parents, father Bernie (voice of Ronnie Del Carmen) and her mother, Cinder (voice of Shila Ommi) at the general store. Bernie had high hopes for Ember to one day run the store so he can retire. But things don’t always turn out like you plan!
Of a matter of fact, Ember met a man, Wade Ripple (voice of Mamoudou Athie) who happens to be all water. Huh, doesn’t water put fire out? Wade lives with his parents, mother Brook (voice of Catherine O’Hara) and his father, Alan (voice of Matthew Yang King) both seem to be a little free spirited. Ember kept things from her parents since she did not want to hurt them since they had big plans for their daughter especially to marry another fire. Yet when things get a bit crazy in there neighborhood a lot comes out and the love between two impossibles may have been ended forever.
I enjoyed this film, nicely directed and written with a nice message that all things are possible, lead with your heart and always be honest. The animation was superb but then again it is Disney and Pixar two of the greatest when it comes to animation. Even though I’m not familiar with the actors who voiced the characters, except for O’Hara, they all did a great job and are surely going to entertain both young and old alike. There are other elements in the story in the background but the focus is mainly on Ember and Wade. For fun night out at the theater make sure to consider Elemental especially if you’re a fan of animation as I am.
