As many students swapped classrooms for computers over the past year, a new survey of 2,000 parents across the UK and US finds that their children’s classmates in the virtual learning setting – their pets—provided real mental health, academic and social benefits. Research has long shown the benefits of having pet interaction in a physical classroom setting and this study confirms these benefits are now being seen in virtual education environments as well. The survey reveals pets helped children cope during the pandemic -- decreasing loneliness, anxiety, and stress and providing a source of motivation for their studies helping improve academic performance. This is positive news in light of early indicators the pandemic has had a negative impact on children’s social skills and well-being, with a recent report finding over 1.5 million children in the UK alone will need additional mental health support as a consequence of the pandemic.

Earth Day 2021: Passing On a Cleaner World No matter where you stand on the climate change debate, we all want clean air and water. Just in time for Earth Day on April 22, Bill Pekny shares five ways to fight pollution everyone can get behind. Midway, UT (April 2021)—Preserving the beauty and wonder of our natural world for future generations should certainly be a goal everyone can get behind. While progress is often stymied by polarizing debates, clean air and water should be a priority for everyone. “We all want to pass on a clean and healthy world,” says Bill Pekny author of A Tale of Two Climates: One Real, One Imaginary (Two Climates LLC, 2020, ISBN: 978-1-73493-960-6, $34.59). “But the science is confusing to the average person, and it can be easy to get lost in the details. Meanwhile, instead of focusing on the fruit closest to the ground we waste our energy trying to convince ‘the other side’ to see things our way.” Pekny, who holds M.S. and B.S. degrees from Georgia Tech and DePaul and spent more than 50 years as a scientist in the U.S. Armed Forces and aerospace industry, wants to help demystify the science and help people understand what they can do to help. He says we should focus on combatting pollution in meaningful ways that are right in front of us instead of getting lost in debate that often just produces gridlock. “Small, incremental changes can get us moving toward bigger changes in the future,” he says. “People will start seeing the benefits right away. These little victories can generate some real momentum and get people excited about working toward a cleaner world.” With that in mind, here are five ways to fight pollution that we can all get behind. Pekny offers these ideas that could pack a big punch in our quest for clean air and water. Focus our efforts on pollution mitigation. All too often we get caught up on reducing carbon emissions in the abstract, and it can distract from other more meaningful ways to fight air pollution. Plus, getting rid of CO2 won’t help reduce other toxic pollutants. Manage forests better to minimize wildfires and resultant smoke (PM2.5) pollution. This includes controlled burns, managed logging operations, and preemptive thinning and removal of underbrush that fuel wildfires. This is a wise step, since trees usually leave the forest in only two ways—lumber or smoke! Place more emphasis on walking trails, biking trails, car-pooling, and public transportation in order to reduce vehicle pollutant emissions. Build more firebreak and logging roads. These roads improve accessibility to fire prone areas and gives us greater ability to inspect remote power lines (a frequent source of wildfires). Fund life cycle research and development of safe modular nuclear reactors and the geothermal fracking process. These have the potential to be flexible, reliable, and continuous sources of clean energy. “The natural beauty of our planet is incredible,” says Pekny. “My hope is that everyone will gain and enjoy a greater understanding of how we can work together to preserve this natural beauty for future generations.” # # # About the Author: Bill Pekny is the author of A Tale of Two Climates: One Real, One Imaginary. He holds physics M.S. and B.S. degrees from Georgia Tech and DePaul University, plus graduate study in physical meteorology and numerical analysis at Florida State University and the University of Utah, and a visiting scholar appointment at the Ginzton Laboratory of Applied Physics at Stanford University. Bill’s career in science spans over 50 years in the U.S. Armed Forces and the aerospace industry. His career highlights include: Project Stormfury with the U.S. Navy Hurricane Hunters; applied atmospheric physics and meteorology research; LASER RADAR development; new product testing in various atmospheric environments; aviation optics and electronics; global climate research; and more. About the Book: A Tale of Two Climates: One Real, One Imaginary (Two Climates LLC, 2020, ISBN: 978-1-73493-960-6, $34.59) is available from major online booksellers.

PRYOR & LEE DIGITALLY RELEASE TWO NEW SONGS Celebrating Life, Love, and Resilience, "Good Ol' Dogs and God" and "Carry On" Are Available Now New Lyric Video Features Charismatic Canines and Timeless Loyalty NASHVILLE, Tenn. – While Pryor & Lee may be known for rowdy live shows and music that celebrates the lighter side of the country music lifestyle, the duo digs a little deeper into storytelling with the release of "Good Ol' Dogs and God" and "Carry On." Digitally available to stream and download both songs here, "Good Ol' Dogs and God" is also playing on top playlists, including Apple Music (New In Country), Amazon Music (Breakthrough Country), and Spotify (New Music Nashville). "Good Ol' Dogs and God" celebrates that unspeakable, unshakeable bond we share with "man's best friend" and with our Creator. A bond that is on full display in the tear-jerking lyric video comprised of fan-submitted home photos and videos honoring their four-legged family members alongside the Black River duo's "baby girls," Winnie, Whiskey, and Remy. "Our dogs mean the absolute world to us," said Lee. "After being on the road or just being gone for a few hours writing a song, there is nothing like coming home to our best four-legged friends." Baird adds, "They have gotten us through so many hard times over the years and are always there to enjoy the great ones with us as well. We are so grateful to our family, friends, and fans for submitting pictures and videos of them with their dogs as we celebrate our dogs together through this special song." "Carry On" reminds us that everyone has a story unique to them and invites listeners to take advantage of the time we have to learn those stories. The chorus offers a recipe to live a full life, write one's own story, and keep on carrying on. Celebrating the craft of storytelling in country music, these songs were penned by veteran songwriters with countless hits under their belts, and new songwriters whose journeys are just beginning. Both tracks were produced by the award-winning hit songwriter and producer, Doug Johnson. "Good Ol' Dogs and God" - Written by Doug Johnson ("Love Like Crazy" recorded by Lee Brice), BBR Recording artist, Elvie Shane (“My Boy”), Adam Wood ("Hey World" recorded by Lee Brice), and the first cut for Trent Fisher. "Carry On" - Written by Jessi Alexander ("I Drive Your Truck" recorded by Lee Brice), Matt Jenkins ("Cop Car" recorded by Keith Urban), and Chase McGill ("Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset" recorded by Luke Bryan). Despite the world-wide pause of 2020, Pryor & Lee released their debut single “Y’allsome,” and played at multiple NASCAR races, including kicking off the Daytona 500 with a pre-race concert and later performing the televised National Anthem at the NASCAR Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. For more information and upcoming tour dates, please visit www.pryorandlee.com and follow them on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and yes, TikTok. This unexpected discovery came after they were brought together as roommates while competing as solo artists on NBC's singing competition, The Voice. In January of 2020, Black River signed the duo, and the guys decided on the name "Pryor & Lee." Then it was off to the races, literally. "Pryor & Lee" kicked off the Daytona 500 with a pre-race concert and later performed the televised National Anthem at the NASCAR Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. American Songwriter said, "Pryor & Lee bring some overdue rowdy to country radio" as they released their first single, "Y'allsome," written by Rhett Akins, Marv Green, and JT Harding. After 2020 closed in on everyone, the guys rounded out a mostly virtual radio promo tour, appeared in an episode of NBCUniversal and Xfinity's Camp Tonsafun, wrote and recorded new music, played a New Year's Eve show to an audience made up of hotel balconies. With a new year comes new music, and on March 26, fans will get two new songs from Pryor & Lee with the release of "Good Ol' Dogs and God" and "Carry On." 2020 was their caution lap. Wait 'till you see what happens when these guys are let loose in 2021! ###

Wishing you and yours peace and love this Easter holiday and Passover We have all been through a trying year and as the country opens, we pray everybody will remember to stay safe through their travels and gatherings with friends and family. We continue to rescue unfortunate angels that once again are being abandoned and found their way to the shelters. Your love and support help us to continue saving innocent lives. Your Easter tithings mean the world to the dogs! We have included pictures of a few of our recently rescue dogs and the bewildering story of sweet “Bruno” who we recently rescued. Easter treats for your four-legged best friends! While many of you continue to share food from your table, we encourage you NOT to feed them human food from your dinner table. For their health, feed grain free, limited ingredient dry food and canned foods, such as Evengers and Against the Grain 100% straight meat with no stews. You can also steam their meat and add to their dry food. I feed a mix with apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, salmon oil, and hemp seeds. (available through our Amazon smile link) We encourage you to add immune support, probiotics that are foil wrapped or out of the refrigerator section at your health food store, for proper processing, and www.nzymes.com granules and bac- pak. You all know about healthy gut digestion by now and these are so important for your best friends as well! For treats we suggest dried duck or chicken treats. Sweet potato strips wrapped with duck are readily available as well and the dogs love them. Smart Bones and Dream Bones have vegetable-based chew sticks and bones. We no longer feed rawhide! There is formaldehyde in rawhide, a major no-no for your best friend! Keep all kids Easter candy away from your pets! You do not need a visit to the veterinarian! For the vegans out there, I can suggest visiting our store www.LBWFstore.org And picking up a copy of my book “Going Vegan” Of course, that will come after Easter, but it makes a great gift! As a special vegan Easter dinner and a real treat for yourselves, try vegan ham, vegan egg salad, a beautiful red leaf lettuce salad with broccoli, mushrooms, carrot strips, add pine-nuts, cranberries and my favorite dressing is Annie’s Goddess dressing! For dessert have a vegan carrot cake or vegan cupcakes available for you and your family and there’s many wonderful vegan ice cream alternatives! Wishing you love and peace to your family this Easter and Passover time. Your Easter donations to LBWF make a world of difference to the rescued dogs in need! With Love as always, Linda Blair for the rescued dogs of Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation DONATE Bruno's Story ‌ Bruno was recently rescued by LBWF. While taking his freedom pictures, we noticed a strange lump in his left side of his chest and took him to the vet for some answers. Nothing was defined except may be a simple large cyst. We scheduled him for his surgery to remove the cyst. Upon my return to the veterinarian to pick Bruno up, the doctor placed a 9 mm hollow point shotgun shell in my hand! I gasped! This was the unknown cyst in Bruno‘s body! Somebody had shot this magnificent and truly kind, sweet dog with absolute intent to kill! I have seen and been through everything with the dogs, but I have never rescued a dog that had been shot. It took my breath away as I am sure it does yours. I was and continue to be so angry! I work so hard rescuing dogs, and this just took my breath away! The world has many people who do not share our love of the animals and for this, we must pray harder for peace and for these criminals to pay the price for what they do to innocent lives! Animal cruelty has never stopped. Your donations support LBWF to make a difference and to continue fighting on for the animals that need our help! April is Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Month There's No Excuse For Animal Abuse! Meet Hank & Holly! PET ADOPTIONS ARE ON THE RISE: SIMPLE TIPS FOR BOTH FIRST-TIME AND EXPERIENCED PET OWNERS LIFESTYLE EXPERT AND ‘CAT MOM’ SHARES WAYS TO KEEP OUR PETS HAPPY AND HEALTHY Cheryl Nelson, Lifestyle Expert and Cat Mom BACKGROUND: As many Americans looked for comfort and companionship during the lockdown, animal rescues across the country saw a spike in adoptions and foster applications. In fact, the ASPCA saw a nearly 70% increase in animals going to foster care and finding forever homes than in the previous year. Whether you’re a first-time pet owner or a veteran that has been spending more time at home with their furry companions, anytime is a good time to explore new ways to keep our pets happy, safe and comfortable. On March 29, Lifestyle Expert and ‘Cat Mom’ Cheryl Nelson will be available to share simple and convenient ways to look after your pets’ overall well-being and how to promote a healthy, safe and comfortable atmosphere for the animals in your life. She will also share her personal story of life hunkered down with her cats and how she is preparing herself and her precious kitties for their post-COVID routines at home. Some of Cheryl’s tips will include: Create a Special Space for the New Member of Your Family: Preparing your home for your new friend before they arrive is key! Map out the space in your house where will they eat, sleep, and do their business. Doing this ahead of time saves you stress and avoids later confusion for the animal. Pet Parent Essentials: Get everything you need to make you and your pet comfortable in your home. Items like scoop-free, self-cleaning litter boxes are a convenient solution for pet parents. They provide better odor control and will reduce dust in your home creating a safe and comfortable environment. This is a great way to begin a routine that will work for pet owners preparing for a post-COVID lifestyle. Preparing for Post-COVID Life: Once pet parents go back to work and are no longer ‘hunkered down’ at home, separation anxiety is likely to happen. Prepare your pets (and yourself!) by sticking to a daily routine and by setting up the essentials ahead of time. For cat owners, having a litter box with a health counter that tracks how many times your cat uses the box is a convenient way to detect early signs of health issues and keep your beloved cats in optimal health while you are away during the day. For more information, visit: www.petsafe.com MORE ABOUT CHERYL NELSON: Cheryl Nelson is the Founder & Owner of Prepare with Cher, LLC and works as a Lifestyle Expert, TV Host and Broadcast Meteorologist.
