One Night of Song, Burlesque, and Comedy; Friday, October 7th for the 2nd Annual “Catbaret”

New York, NY, September 21, 2011— Sixteen theatrical artists of dance, burlesque, song, comedy, and storytelling will come together Friday, October 7 for the “Catbaret,” a special variety show to celebrate the feline qualities of life and raise funds for Anjellicle Cats Rescue (ACR), a no kill cat rescue and adoption group that is one of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals’ Alliance Participating Organizations. A huge success last year, the 2011 “Catbaret” will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Laurie Beechman Theater, 407 West 42nd Street.

This special fundraising event will feature entertainment by some of New York City’s top performers including Songstresses Cathy La Valle, Stephanie Sellars, Kiela Mellott, and Laura MacLean; Storyteller Joe Dettmore; Burlesque stars Lusty Le Mew and Dixie Lee Rose, Lounge Legend Trudy Carmichael; and Clown Artist Peter Daniel Straus. Mistress of Ceremonies is Jojo La Purr, and Ed Goldschneider will be on piano.

Glittering laughter and the grand performances is all in support of ACR that rescues, rehabilitates, and adopts out New York City’s homeless cats and kittens, with a focus on local shelter animals in immediate danger of being euthanized. Currently ACR has over 200 cats in its care located throughout its large foster network or at one of its four adoption centers located throughout Manhattan.

Ninety percent of ticket sales of the “Catbaret” will go directly back to ACR and its efforts in rescuing New York City’s many homeless and abandoned cats and kittens. Tickets are $20 and there is a $15 food/drink minimum. The food/drink minimum covers the cost of the theater. Reservations are recommended by calling 212-695-6909.

About the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals®

The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Inc., founded in 2002 and powered by Maddie’s Fund®, The Pet Rescue Foundation, with support from the ASPCA, is a coalition of more than 150 animal rescue groups and shelters working with Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs at AC&C shelters. To achieve that goal, the Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, helps its Alliance Participating Organizations (APOs) work to their highest potential to increase pet adoptions and spay/neuter rates, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015.  For more information about the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, visit: www.AnimalAllianceNYC.org
