Firehouse Dog

20th Century Fox and New Regency Productions present a PG rated 111 minute action comedy directed by Todd Holland and starring Josh Hutcherson (Shane Fahey), Bruce Greenwood (Connor Fahey), Bill Nunn (Joe Musto), Scotch Ellis Loring (Lionel Bradford), Mayte Garcia (Pep Clemente), Teddy Sears (Terence Kahn), Steven Culp (Zachary Hayden), Dash Mihok (Trey Falcon), Bree Turner (Liz Knowles), Hannah Lochner (Jasmine J.J. Presley), Claudette Mink (Captain Jessie Presley), Matt Cooke (Corbin Sellars) and Arwen, Frodo, Stryder, Rohan (Rexxx/Dewey the Dog).

The film opens up to a major motion picture star known by millions and pampered by many in the Hollywood industry, his name is Rexxx.  Perfectly groomed, fed the best of meals, his own dressing room trailer and overall the best of everything along with a number of great hit films under his collar.  While traveling under the name of Dew his plane is struck by lightning thus creating the tale of the dog that fell from the sky.

Now alone and thought dead by the movie industry and his manager, Trey Falcon, Rexxx wanders the streets endlessly in hopes of finding home and his hairpiece.  Not that he needed one but it was a fashion statement for such a well known celebrity canine.  Pam Anderson gets implants, Rexxx gets a weave, even better than Donald Trumps!  Rexxx,  a curly haired handsome, personable, neat freak, snoring, farting, almost human character is truly a talented action canine capable of pulling out all the stops to make you fall in love with his ever changing facial expressions.  Eventually Rexxx, aka Dewey, befriends a young boy, Shane, which leads to a new journey for both.  Where there's fire, there's a jump, rescue and eventually a flip that would score a perfect ten in gymnastics.

Shane is the son of Connor Fahey, Captain of the Dogpatch Engine 55 firehouse and left with the responsibility of watching over their new found friend, now known as Dewey.  A relationship develops between the two that surpasses all boundaries and expectations.  Throughout the film it is truly Dewey that watches over both father and son and helps to restore a bond that was lost when Shane's Uncle was killed in a possible arson fire.

Fires are being set around town and destroying all the main buildings in Clarkson County.  It is Shane and his best friend, Dewey, that eventually uncover the culprits, risking their own lives in the process of uncovering the reasons for these fires.  This film is a truly dramatic emotional story of a dog and his unconditional devotion to helping this father and son along with members of the firehouse find their true direction in life.  In the end even Rexxx is faced with the decision of French Poodles over sirens and fire poles.  But after being a real hero who would be happy just acting like one on the big screen?

Finally a well done inspiring emotional dramatic action film that is probably one of the best dog starring movies I have seen in quite some time capable of making you laugh and cry.  A brilliant story beautifully acted by all the cast members especially Hutcherson, Greenwood and the canine superstar himself.  Filled with a little romance both canine and human, comedic spoofs on other films involving a variety of canine actors and some phenomenal cinematography during the fire scenes is all worth your theatre ticket price.  It is truly a film deserving of viewing on the big screen rather than DVD.  I recommend this compelling story to animal lovers, families and friends but hey you may want to leave the cats at home.
